Are you ready to beat burnout?

Then stop relying on self-care.

(Seriously, though).

Burnout has nothing to do with self-care - and everything to do with self-regulation.

Burnout is a multidimensional experience that affects body, mind, and relationships. It’s caused by prolonged stress, unresolved trauma, and the demands of being a helping professional, caregiver, or sensitive soul living here on planet earth.

If you’re on your way to burnout, you may be experiencing some of this:

  • Digestive issues - constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux, stomach pain

  • Tension and pain - sore shoulders, aching back, tight hamstrings

  • Trouble falling or staying asleep

  • Tired even after resting

  • Racing thoughts

  • Rumination about the past, worry about the future

  • Hopelessness, despair, powerlessness

  • Reaction formation (e.g., using excessive humor, acting as though everything’s alright)

  • Isolated and disconnected from friends and family who don’t understand

  • Unsupported by systems at work

  • Struggles with intimacy due to overwhelm

  • Little energy to invest in self-care

Does any of that sound like you?

Because it certainly sounds a lot like me when I was overwhelmed, overworked, and totally over all the suggestions for self-care that just weren't working.

What if you could feel like this instead?

  • Delicious digestion

  • Health and vitality

  • Excellent, routine sleep hygiene

  • Ease and comfort

  • Mindful and attentive

  • Present-focused and optimistic for the future

  • Confident, capable, and empowered

  • Authentic and transparent about thoughts and feelings

  • Meaningful connections with friends and family

  • Supported by supervisors, scheduling, and similar processes and procedures at work

  • Available for intimate connections

  • Strong boundaries between professional and personal life

At this point, you might be saying "Sure, but how do I get there without self-care?"

First, you need to understand the science of sensations and how they get stuck to create compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burnout. I tell you all about it in this video.

The Truth About Compassion Fatigue,
Vicarious Trauma, and Burnout

Self-care won't work.

Preventing and recovering from compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burnout is all about cleansing the sensations, stories, and signals of others from your cells to clear space for coming home to your own.

If you're ready to reveal the truth of who you are and what you can do,
let me tell you about a burnout training I built just for you.

Coming Home: A Burnout Recovery & Prevention Program for Therapists, Empaths, and Healers

Coming Home* is a self-guided online course that helps therapists, empaths, and healers move from overwhelmed and overworked to educated and empowered so they can amplify their impact while also reducing their risk for compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burnout.

Oh... SIDENOTE: This course is actually a multidimensional introduction to the truth of who you are and what you can do, and has a ton of science built into on the topic of what makes being human beautiful - something I talk about all the time in my podcast, Anne's Anatomy™.

So, you don't need to be burnt out to take the course.

But like I said...

Burnout has nothing to do with self-care. All the yoga, meditation, massages, and rest in the world won’t ever get to the heart of compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burnout - but self-regulation will.

This is what makes all the difference.

My passion for burnout prevention and recovery is inspired by my own nasty bout of burnout that hit me just six months into working full time as a trauma therapist. Despite practicing self-care and seeking professional support, I was crippled by carrying the stories of my clients - and no one could tell me why.

This experience launched a 10+ year research journey that led to a more true understanding of the underlying interpersonal and neurological factors that lead to compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burnout - and it was the path that set me free to do my work in ways that didn’t hurt.

What I found is this: Compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burnout have nothing to do with self-care and everything to do with self-regulation.

And at the heart of self-regulation is emotion, which literally means ‘energy in motion.’

At a basic level, we burnout when emotion triggered by the stories of our clients gets stuck in our own cells. In Coming Home, I introduce my innovative multidimensional model and guide you in finding your flow - feeling sensations, sharing stories, and acting on signals - to get what’s ‘stuck in’ the nervous system to ‘move out.’

In this way, the course doesn't teach self-care. It teaches self-regulation.

If you’re a therapist, empath, or healer feeling overwhelmed by your work, enroll today.

Now more than ever, we need you and the unique ways in which you work in the world.

What is Coming Home?

Coming Home is a 7-Day self-guided program to help you clear the clutter of other people's sensations, stories, and signals so that you can beat burnout and come home to your true self. Don't know about Anne's Anatomy™? Listen to the podcast.

Coming Home is for you if you are...

  • Are a sensitive one - an empath, therapist, or healer (e.g., counselor, social worker, case worker, doctor, nurse, teacher, first responder, crisis worker, mentor, coach, cosmetologist, esthetician, energy worker, massage therapist, yoga instructor, parent, caretaker etc.)

  • Haven’t recovered from the crisis of quarantine

  • Feel “filled up” by the stress of others

  • Struggle with exhaustion, irritability, and resentment

  • Have given serious though to quitting your career as a therapist, helper, or healer (but don’t want to)

  • Increased your self-care but it’s not helping

  • Want to make your daily routine more effective and sustainable

  • Hold interest in holistic AND research-based approaches to health and well-being

  • Consider yourself self-motivated and enjoy online learning

  • Are deeply invested in creating a culture where everyone everywhere can be happy, healthy, wealthy, and free

  • Desire to feel happy, healthy, wealthy, and free yourself!

Coming Home is NOT for you if you are...

  • Are not self-motivated. The program is online and self-guided. For it to work, you’ll need to do the work.

  • Know you won’t make time. Students will review online videos, take notes, complete exercises, and apply the practices to their professional and personal lives. This can be a ton of fun! But if it feels like “too much,” come back another time. The program will be here for you when you’re ready.

  • Don’t enjoy online learning. Dr. Ashley is an innovator in online education, so all of the content in Compassion Cleanse is hosted online and through an easy-to-use app. Although accessing the reviewing the content is pretty straightforward, if you’re a firm-believer in face-to-face instruction, this program isn’t right for you.

  • Have purchased a zillion online courses but haven’t completed any of them.

The Truth About
Beating Burnout

Burnout has nothing to do with self-care and everything with self-regulation.

And I tell you this from personal experience.

At the very beginning of my career as a trauma specialist, I was doing all kinds of self-care. Bubble baths, massages, facials, yoga classes, journaling, meditation, and more. I was also seeing a psychologist, psychiatrist, and meeting with multiple supervisors every week.

I was doing exactly the right kind of self-care I was told to do.

And yet…

I was ten pounds underweight, my skin was broken out, my digestive system was angry all the time, I wasn’t sleeping, I was working through lunch, I was seeing clients for 8 hours straight, and I felt empty, alone, and overwhelmed.

Since no one could help, I had to do my own work – diving into the research and finding out that simple yet surprising truth:

When other people share stories, YOU pick up on their sensations.

I didn’t know it then, but sitting across from people and hearing their stories was actually changing the sensations in my body, altering my nervous system, messing with my hormones, and changing the way my mind worked.

If you’re an empath, helper, or healer, you might know exactly what I’m talking about: whether or not you want to, you feel what others feel all the time, every day, in every way.

In Coming Home, I teach you everything you need to know to transform from overwhelmed to optimistic. You’ll watch a few videos where I teach you the basics and then we’ll spend three days together practicing lifestyle changes – for your body, mind, and relationships – that will transform the way you exist in the world.

Course Outline

Days 1-4: Getting Started

Before you get started with the practices in Coming Home, you’re going to set yourself up for success. You’ll review exclusive video content about Anne’s Anatomy™, Dr. Anne’s innovative multidimensional map for happiness, health, wealth, and freedom. You’ll set your goals and prepare for the practice.

DAY 5: Body Scanning

On the first day of the actual cleanse (day 5), you’ll learn how to amplify your awareness and recognize elements of your body, mind, and relationships that are affected by your compassion for others. You’ll understand the science of sensation in the body, the power of stories in the mind, and explore how actions affect relationships. With this new information in mind, you’ll evaluate various aspects of your life and take stock of where you are right now.

You’ll end day one by selecting and practicing a body scan you tailor to your unique needs.

DAY 6: Bonding

On day 6, you’ll learn one of the most important skills we humans have: how to bond with other people using specific stories informed by your feelings. Dr. Ashley will teach you why social engagement is important, how it gets tricky, and teach you specific phrases for seeking support and expressing yourself in ways that feel meaningful and manageable.

DAY 7: Boundary-Setting

On day 7, Dr. Ashley will walk through boundary-setting practices that will cleanse your body, mind, and relationships by creating space for your own flow. Yes, boundaries are tough! But Coming Home is designed to teach you how to master the art of saying no – to yourself, others, and society (and sticking to it).

MOVING FORWARD: Making a Commitment

Practicing the course practices can create immediate changes in your body, mind, and relationships. But if you’d like to make changes that last, it’s important to look forward and make commitments to repeating the practices until they become a part of what Dr. Ashley calls your Master Routine. After all, it takes routine, rehearsal, and rewiring your brain to create habits that last.

By the end of the cleanse, you’ll know the process of differentiation (how to get others’ sensations, stories, and signals OUT of your individual human) AND you’ll identify some non-negotiables to help implement new practices moving forward.

You’ll wrap up the program by writing a commitment statement that outlines your totally doable, three-step formula for change.

Then you’ll practice that formula for the next 28 days (Dr. Ashley gives you a calendar). This is the magic of mastering your life – time and repetition… but in a way that avoids overwhelm.

After 28 days, you can do the entire Coming Home program again! Since each practice results in different aha moments in different dimensions, you can use the formula to continue your evolution one month at a time.
